Understanding Your Swing Metrics: Setup Posture Explained

Setup Posture section measures your shoulder, hip, and knee joint angle at address in degrees. It helps determine if your setup aligns with Swing Tune-Up’s tour pro benchmark.

Grading Scheme

The setup posture is graded based on how closely it matches professional standards:

Excellent – Falls within 90% of the tour pro range.

Good – Falls within 98% of the tour pro range.

Okay – Within 1.2x the bounds of Good.

Caution – Outside the Okay bound.

Feedback

Narrow – The joint angle is on the low end of tour pro data (The joint angle is too narrow).

Ideal – The joint angle is within the desired range of tour pro data.

Wide – The joint angle is on the high end of tour pro data (The joint angle is too wide).

Setup Posture metrics on the analysis page

Shoulder

Measures the shoulder joint angle (the angle formed by elbow, shoulder and hip) at address.

Hip

Measures the hip joint angle (the angle formed by shoulder, hip and and knee) at address.

Knee

Measures the knee joint angle at address.

Example

  • If the shoulder angle is 43.2° and labeled “Slightly Wide,” you may need to pull their arms closer to the body.
  • If the hip angle is 137.2° and labeled “Slightly Wide,” you may need to hinge their hip joint/stick their hips out a bit more.
  • If the knee angle is 137.9° and labeled “Moderately Narrow,” you may need to straighten their knees slightly.
